We invite you to join us for a YP networking lunch in October to work on the silent auction mid-year fundraising baskets. This year, we are supporting the non-profit organization, Global Water Stewardship (GWS). Our very own WEAU Outreach Director, Sarah Guzman, serves as the co-chair for GWS, which focuses on providing sanitation projects, public education, and outreach initiatives in Costa Rica. YPs - we need your help donating items for the silent auction baskets! A sign-up list for items needed is linked here. Please consider signing up to bring one or more listed items and/or asking your company to donate items. All of the items in the baskets are very affordable. You can also provide a cash donation. If you cannot attend the fundraising lunch on October 21st, please email [email protected] to coordinate item drop off. If your company would like to donate an entire basket, please email [email protected].

What:
We will be assembling the silent auction baskets and networking over the lunch hour! Feel free to stop by anytime between 12:00pm-1:30pm. Lunch will be provided! The silent auction will take place at the WEAU Mid-Year Conference.
As part of the GWS program, Sarah’s team has been working with a community in Costa Rica to build a biogarden at a school, treating its own graywater, as well as providing educational activities for the children. GWS also works with national and local authorities to promote and support the development of their wastewater infrastructure. Most of Costa Rica does not have centralized wastewater systems, as about 80% of the country relies solely on septic tanks. As part of their initiatives, GWS also organized a student design competition with the purpose of providing the communities a blueprint for a centralized wastewater treatment and collection system based on the needs of their community. Additionally, each year GWS organizes Ticosan which is the only wastewater conference in Costa Rica. Ticosan is a 1-day conference focused on technical topics and case studies with the purpose of knowledge exchange between the professionals in the country.
GWS is a 100% non-profit organization and does not receive funds from Costa Rica for their initiatives. They depend 100% on sponsors and donors. Donations can be made directly to GWS HERE. To learn more about GWS, please visit their website: https://globalwaterstewardship.org/.
